D.J. Instruction Workshop

As part of the Job Readiness program, S.T.A.R.S. will be introducing a new D.J. Instruction Workshop, starting on Friday, February 28th, 2003. It will run every Friday until April 18th, 2003, from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. All instruction will take place at the youth center, located at 8 Coleman Square, Howard Beach. Anthony Lamicella, will be the instructor. Lamicella has been assisting area D.J.s for the past 5 years and looks forward to teaching what he has learned to neighborhood youth. Participants in the program must be at least 13 years old.
The program was made available in part through a Community Outreach Grant S.T.A.R.S. was awarded from Con Edison. Upon finding out the qualification for the Community Outreach Grant, Council Member Addabbo put Con Edison representative, Terry Bounavolanti in touch with S.T.A.R.S. Upon completion of the proposal, S.T.A.R.S. qualified for $1,000.00 to purchase some of the needed equipment for the program. Frances O. Scarantino, President/Founder of S.T.A.R.S. stated that, "these young entrepreneurs will be learning every aspect of being a D.J., from how to use top-notch equipment, to how to work a party, and eventually how to start their own business."
